The Tiny Mod came from the desired of 2 friends wanting to make cool projects together, we both wanted to design and make something cool, and we love tiny things.
And then making a tiny 3d printer idea came, and we both fell in love with the idea and we started brainstorming immediately.
We just couldn't stop working on the design. It had to be compact, affordable to our limited budget, but still solid and highly customizable for whatever mods we wanted to add on later.
Choosing to make it out of 3D printed parts that were also modular was a no-brainer, it ticked all the boxes. We just had to figure out if we could actually pull it off.
Turns out we're a pretty great team. We put a lot of thought into every single piece and feature.
After 2 days, we had a prototype. It didn't work yet, but it was enough for us to validate our vision, we knew we where onto something.
We waited what felt like forever for parts to arrive from China, then got straight back into it. Thanks to our design, we could tweak parts easily without having to start from scratch. And because it's all 3D printed, after just a few hours we already have the new part on hand and we can test it.
Finally, on 31/10/2023, contrary to what most people thought we got our first print.
YAY IT WORKS!
This project was supposed to be just for fun, but we ended up with an amazing printer. Not too shocking, really, because we made each part the best it could be. So the whole printer turned out great.
We had a blast doing this and learned a lot along the way. We're stoked to share every detail with the community for free. So if you're into 3D printing, want to get the lowdown on how it works, or you just want a cute little printer of your own, this is the project for you.
